Quilt Festival

Here is my entry for the Blogger's Quilt Festival hosted by Amy at Park City Girl. There are now over 500 quilts to see, go check it out.

In 2005, I signed up to participate in a Round Robin that was being hosted on HGTV's message board. We made our center block and sent our robins on their journey. I decided to make Evan's Star that I got from Quilter's Cache. Other than a basic paper pieced block to learn the how to, this was my first attempt at paper piecing. I added the burgundy and cream border so that I could remove the paper on the back of the block. I have to say, after all was said and done, it turned out pretty good.
Every 4-6 weeks, a new package would arrive at my house awaiting a new round. It was fun and sometimes challenging to add a border that would flow nicely with the rest of the quilt.
I don't remember the time frame exactly, but around early Summer 2006, my robin flew home. I was so excited to get that box open and see how my center block grew.

Here is a corner to show a little closer look.

And here is the full top.
I will have to measure it and get that posted.
I'm sorry ladies, I don't have everyone's name right here that worked on this. I do have it in a box in my sewing room and will add it here when it gets unpacked. I will go searching and get it on here soon.
Thanks for looking around.

It looks like a kaliedescope in the center. Very eye catching. The colors work well with the pattern of the quilt.

Mikol - so glad you shared your RR as your Quilt Festival featured quilt - as that was the first I'd heard of it being your first real attempt at pp'ing!!! WOWOWOWO!

Can you hear me? I was floored to receive it as my first round and just in Awe of your pp'ing ablility!! I think it turned out great and I was the one that bought that paisley fabric and added it to the package... I see it was only used once.

Have you had it quilted yet? The reason I ask is I'm nearly certain that when I bought it I also bought and brought home some of the same for my stash - and I know I've not used it yet... if you'd like it I'd love to ship it to you to use....

I'm not sure how many yards I have? But it is YOURS if you want it. Just say the word ;)

Love from Texas! ~bonnie

Love your quilt. Round Robins are fun but a little scary - you just never know what you're going to get :) Your starting block is gorgeous. It's amazing what patterns you can get out of the Evan's Star.
Regarding my quilt with the 'lip'. It's known as a flange. I think that's one of my favourite words ever! Flange flange flange...see it sounds great :P
Happy sewing,
Abbe

This is one of the more successful Round Robin quilts I've seen ever. You are lucky to have such a strong groups of quilt designers that added borders that enhanced your medallion center. I agree with Copper Patch--it can be a little scary!

MEEGZ...hope you see this, your profile doesn't come up so I can't get back to you. The Round Robin was done a few years ago, and there hasn't been another one hosted yet. Some of the ladies put together a Crazy Quilt RR where they all took turns embillishing each others blocks/wallhanging.
This particular RR had a few hangups, but all in all worked out well.
Bonnie, I haven't had it quilted yet. I'll send you a message. :)
